Chapter 1: Duty Calls
"Happy damn Valentine's Day!" Dr. Sabrina DeLane grumbled.
She was positive she must have been a most peculiar sight when she arrived, dressed looking more like she belonged in the pages of Vogue than the halls of General Hospital. A vision of style and sensuality perched atop a dazzling pair of Gucci stilettos, she was beyond stunning in a simple yet elegant Dolce & Gabbana sheath that hugged her shapely frame in all the right places.
As she made her way down the hall, she replayed the day's events in her weary mind…
Six hours in an unbearably hot O.R.
Next, a mandatory appearance at the annual GH Valentine's Ball, whereupon she found herself in the company of the hospital's newest surgical hotshot, a Dr. Hayward; apparently he was a transfer from some hospital in Pine Valley. Very easy on the eyes, he was.
And equally arrogant.
(Not that Sabrina had a problem with arrogant men. On the contrary, she rather enjoyed the company of what she liked to refer to as the "extremely self-assured." Must have had something to do with the fact that she was equally so herself…)
Just as the evening was finally beginning to actually liven up - nothing like two women showing up to a formal function decked out in the same garb…especially when one (her good friend, Dara Jensen) was on the arm of the other's (Brenda Barrett) ex (Jasper "Jax" Jacks) - a STAT page drew Sabrina away from the festivities, and to the bedside of an adorable, but seriously ill five year-old.
Nearly two hours later, after assuring the child's parents the reactions she was having to the medication were normal, Sabrina made a quick dash to her office to freshen up her makeup before heading across town for a romantic rendezvous…
Or so she thought.
